Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte region is combining its operations with Habitat's Gaston County affiliate.
What's next: The consolidation with Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County is expected to be finalized on Oct. 1.
The new organization will continue with the Habitat Charlotte Region name and serve Mecklenburg, Gaston and Iredell counties.
By the numbers: It will have more than 230 employees, nearly $69 million in assets, revenue over $52 million and nearly 1,100 mortgages.
What they're saying: “The cost of housing in the greater Charlotte area continues to outpace many working families’ ability to purchase homes,” Habitat Charlotte Region CEO Laura Belcher said in a news release. “By consolidating our organizations and combining efforts, we expect to serve more of those families together, more quickly than our two affiliates could serve if we continued to operate independently.”
The two Habitat groups have combined to serve 4,800 families since 1983. Habitat Gaston will this year complete Dixon Village, a mixed-income 28-home development in north Belmont serving 12 Habitat families.
The organization will be headquartered in Charlotte and have other offices in Davidson and Gastonia. It will have restores — Habitat's home-improvement and donation locations — in Charlotte, Cornelius, Gastonia, Mooresville, Pineville and Statesville.
"We have several families who have already been approved for new home ownership and many more who have requested critical repairs to homes they own,” said Patrick Mumford, GBA President and board chairman for Habitat Gaston County. “Combining our talent and resources will enable us to provide services to those families in an accelerated time frame.”
