Gaston County is excited to announce the development of a Multimodal Comprehensive Transportation Plan (MCTP). This initiative underscores our commitment to enhancing the county’s transportation infrastructure, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of our community.

The MCTP study is a multi-modal transportation plan that includes identified needs and proposed recommendations to support anticipated growth and development over the next 30+ years.
Now, through the end of April, the County and its partners are collecting resident feedback on their transportation priorities.
Residents are encouraged to take a brief, five-minute survey at https://engagewithtpd.mysocialpinpoint.com/GCL-survey. The link to the survey is also on the homepage of the County website, GastonGov.com.
Key Objectives of the MCTP Study:
Assess Current Infrastructure: Evaluate the existing transportation infrastructure to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
Community Engagement: Gather input and feedback from residents, businesses, and stakeholders through public meetings, surveys, and workshops.
Sustainability Focus: Develop strategies to reduce environmental impact, promote green transportation options, and enhance overall quality of life.
Future Growth: Plan for future population growth and economic development, ensuring the transportation network can accommodate increased demand.
Jurisdictional Coordination: Foster collaboration among jurisdictions, local, regional, and state agencies to ensure cohesive planning and implementation.
What they're saying: “This study is a crucial step towards creating a transportation system that is not only efficient and reliable but also inclusive and forward-thinking,” County Manager Matt Rhoten said. “We encourage all residents to participate and share their insights.”
What's next: Gaston County has partnered with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the Gaston-Cleveland-Lincoln Metropolitan Planning Organization, and Charlotte-based consulting firm, RS&H to conduct this study. The findings and recommendations will be presented in a final report, which will guide future transportation projects and investments.
