The Gaston County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to hold a public hearing and consider incentives for Project Hemmingway, according to the agenda. Documents state the project calls for a total investment of $28.5 million to design and build a 100,000-square-foot facility at Apple Creek. The project calls for the creation of 60 jobs at an average annual wage of $53,000.

Project Hemmingway would locate at Lot 4 at Apple Creek, a parcel that documents show is over 9 acres.

  • Should the project move forward, the company behind it would pay $75,000 per acre for the site, board records state.

  • The county is considering a level two incentives grant for Project Hemmingway, as well as authorization for the county to enter into an economic development agreement for the project.

  • Apple Creek has landed five manufacturing investments since August 2020.

  • The county-owned industrial park, which spans more than 300 acres, has lured over $130 million in pledged investment in the last three years.

  • The most recent project broke ground there in March.
