Piedmont Lithium, a GBA Investor, has been approved by the Department of Environmental Equality for a mining permit application in reference to the Carolina Lithun project, which will span thousands of acres across Gaston County and employ hundreds of people.
“This is an exciting day for all of us at Piedmont Lithium," said Keith Phillips, the company's president and CEO. “We plan to develop Carolina Lithium as one of the lowest-cost, most sustainable lithium hydroxide operations in the world, and as a critical part of the American electric vehicle supply chain."
What’s next: The next step for this project will be to apply for various required permits and re-zoning approval. The proposed timeline for this project will have all needed approvals by the end of this year, with construction starting in 2025 and the projected completion by 2027.
